How to Get There

Getting to the Lone Tree is relatively simple, but knowing the best routes will save you some time and effort.

By Car:

From the north, leave the A55 at Junction 11 and follow the signs for LLanberis, as you head towards the village on the A4086, you'll see the Llyn to your left. You will want to take the left turn which is sign posted with a brown sign 'Y Glyn" and surf lines. Drive down the road until you see a large car park on your right hand side called Parc Gwledig, Padarn Country Park. Park here and the lone tree is a few minutes walk away. 

From the south, enter the village and stay on the A4086, you a brown sign on your left marked 'Y Glyn" and surf lines. Take first road on the right after this sign, drive down the road until you see a large car park on your right hand side called Parc Gwledig, Padarn Country Park. 

By Foot:

Llanberis has a number of walking routes that will bring you past Llyn Padarn. If you’re up for a little hike, you can take the Llanberis Path towards Snowdon (a scenic trail that passes along the shores of Llyn Padarn), which will bring you within walking distance of the Lone Tree.

Parking and Access

Parking in Llanberis is plentiful, but it can get busy, especially during peak times. There’s a large car park at the location, use the what3words code for easy directions. ///scorching.intricate.learn

Further parking is available closer to Llanberis Lake and the Railway station, just a short walk away from the Lone Tree. 

Best Times to Visit

To capture the Lone Tree in all its glory, timing is key. The best times to visit are early in the morning or late in the afternoon, especially around sunrise and sunset. This is when the lighting is at its most magical—soft, golden hues illuminating the landscape, with the low angle of the sun casting long shadows and adding depth to your photos.

Sunrise offers a serene atmosphere, with fewer visitors and the tranquility of the lake providing the perfect backdrop for your photography. Sunset, on the other hand, brings out the warm tones of the mountains and the lake’s reflective surface, creating a truly awe-inspiring scene.

However, take your time to line your shot up, which may mean you moving your tripod up or down or moving closer or further away from the tree. The mountains provide a perfect frame for the tree and if you line the trunk up with the pass where the mountains meet you'll ensure your image is not only centered but perfectly composed.
