What Wast Water makes it so special is its versatility, it works in nearly all conditions, stormy skies, calm reflections, mist rolling through the valley. It consistently delivers strong images and is the perfect Lake District roadside photography location!
Wast Water Photography Tips:
- Wast Water can be a highly versatile location depending on the weather conditions.
- Best for mood, drama and changing conditions. However some times patience is required, you don't need to wait for the perfect weather conditions.
- Patience: But sometimes waiting for the weather to pass will reveal amazing light, or the tops of the mountains and sometimes fleeting reflections.

- Accessibility: Wast Water is the definition of a park and shoot location, with the shore a very short walk from the parking area.
- Parking: There is ample parking for all vehicles types and sizes.
- Versatility: No matter the weather conditions there will always be a shot available here!
Cons:
- Popularity: Despite being located the furthest west from the major routes it can get busy - avoid bank and school holidays.
- Time: Its a long way to travel, study those weather apps and avoid low level overcast days!
- Approach Road: The road to Wast Water is narrow in places and larger vehicles may struggle.

Blea Tarn - Lake District Landscape Photography without hiking
2. Blea Tarn is among the best photography locations in the Lake District.
Blea Tarn is a photographers dream, an easy-access Lake District photography location, providing amazing images, especially when conditions align for reflections.
Surrounded by the Langdale Pikes, it offers a clean, classic composition with minimal effort required to access it.
Photography Tips: Blea Tarn, Langdale
- Foreground Interest: Use the rocks at the edge of the water to add depth to your, shots. There are plenty to chose from just be mindful it can get really boggy around the tarn.
- Theres more to Blea Tarn than the 'classic tarn shots'. As the path winds around the tarn, take the path to the left just after the stream and wooden bridge and go and explore!

- Parking: There is ample parking for all vehicles types and sizes but larger vehicles may struggle to navigate the tight approach roads.
- Amazing Scenery: The spectacular combination Blea Tarn and The Langdale Pikes is regarded as being one of the best in the Lake District.
Cons:
- Boggy Ground: There is a clear path which can be used to walk around Blea Tarn, however if you descend to the waters edge, which you'll need to to photograph the partially submerged rocks then it will get boggy. I did on one occasion sink to my knee and nearly lost a walking boot!
- No Overnight Stays: This area is governed by the National Trust with clear signs stipulating no fires and no camping. Be respectful and leave no trace.

- Popularity: Due to Buttermere's accessibility, the relatively flat circular walk combined with the amazing lakeland scenery the area can get very busy especially at weekends and school holidays.Sunrise will provide the quietest time.
- Parking: Despite the options available, due to Buttermere's popularity they can fill up quickly. Arrive early to avoid disappointment.

Duke of Portland Boathouse: Lake District Roadside Photography Location
4. The Duke of Portland Boathouse is one of the most iconic photography locations in the Lake District with parking.
Located close to Pooley Bridge, the boathouse is not just iconic, its also one of the most accessible locations in the Lake District. Its an ideal location for photographer's who want a strong lakeland scene without the long hike.
The Ullswater Boathouse is one of the best easy-access landscape photography locations in the Lake District. Close to the M6 at Penrith, great close-by parking, a very short walk roadside location.
Photography Tips - Ullswater Boathouse.
- Best Time & Light: Sunrise will illuminate the front of the boathouse. Winter mornings will often offer the best light and moody mist.
- Composition: Get low to the water's edge to include foreground interest, such as reeds, rocks, or reflections. A wide-angle lens, e.g. 16-35mm will help to capture the landscape.
Pros:
- Accessibility: The boathouse is just a few minutes walk from the lay-by.
- Best for Sunrise: The boathouse faces in an easterly direction, sunrises will provide the best light between August and March.
- Amazing Reflections: Whilst you can flatten the water with longer exposures, you can obtain amazing reflections here. You'll need wind speeds less than 3 mph.
Cons:
- Parking: Parking is limited to a lay-by which is large enough for a few vehicles. Although I've never failed to park.
- Path: There is no path along the road, so care is needed to cross the road and descend to the lake shore.
- Respect Privacy: Remember that this is a private holiday rental, so photograph respectfully from public areas.

- Summer: Golden sunshine, long days with beautiful pure colour from the heather.
- Autumn: Stunning vibrant colours as the trees change colour with a mix of yellow and orange transform the scenery.
